One week after a tough 49-44 loss to St. John Bosco, the top of the Trinity League, JSerra Catholic High School played a historic game in its first ever win over Mater Dei. The two Trinity League rivals battled hard, but the Lions walked away with a 17-10 victory.
JSerra opened up the scoring with a bang when Nick Robinson picked out Isaiah Diego-Williams for a 97-yard touchdown pass with just under eight minutes left in the first. The Monarchs tied the game up in the second to send the game to an even 7-7 halftime.
After Mater Dei started the third off with a field goal to take its only lead of the game, the Lions scored the touchdown that would end up being the game-winner on a 49-yard connection between Robinson and Sam Phillippi. A JSerra field goal in the fourth was the only score of the quarter.
With only two league games left against Orange Lutheran and Servite, the two last place teams in the league, 2nd place JSerra looks like it’s on its way to the best season in the school’s eleven years. The Lions are currently 8th in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings and 3rd in the state of California.
